This book is the sixth and final volume of the series of the Flora of Maharashtra proposed to be compiled by the author Professor (Dr.) M. R. Almeida. This volume is based on Blatter & McCann’s Bombay Grasses (1935) and like previous volumes gives line drawing illustrations and many coloured photographs. It deals with family Poaceae (Graminae).

Description

Families belongs to monocotyledonly are described with their divisions nearly all accepted by Bentham & Hooker f. (1883) classification system, with their divisions generally accepted by taxonomists, except the family Poaceae (Syn. Graminae). The Volume deals with 535 species, 25 varieties, 2 sub-species belonging to 145 genera. Book describes 3 new species with 17 new names and 44 new combinations of species, varieties, etc. Illustration plates are 36 and photo plates are 8. In this volume also includes contributions of many researcher’ s which are reflected. Author have proposed numbers of new combinations based on understanding of International Rules from ICBN. This part contains the list of Genera which belongs to A – O. Brachiaria remota (Retz.) Haines a new record from Akola district, Avena fatua Linn. reported on authority of Dr. N. L. Bor.; Bothriochloa concanensis (Hk. F.) Henrard species is endemic to Peninsular India; Enteropogon priurii (Kunth) Clayton record from Thane (Maharashtra). Volume 6B  deals with 535 species, 25 varieties, 2 sub-species belonging to 145 genera. Book describes 3 new species with 17 new names and 44 new combinations of species, varieties, etc. This part contains the list of Genera which belongs to P – Z. There are 24 Illustration plates and 4 photo plates in this part. Sehima notatum (Hack) record from Marathwada (Maharashtra); Tripogon trifidus Munro ex. Stapf is a new report from Satara (Maharashtra); Sorghum deccanense Stapf. Ex Bor Endemic in Western India and Madhya Pradesh; Polypogon monspeliensis (Linn.) Desf. Hemadri’s collection from Vinewadi in Junnar taluka forms its first record for Maharashtra, this are some species examples in this part of volume. The volume has Bibliography and Index to Scientific Names and to Local Names.
